Professional Outdoor Lighting Installation in Metro Detroit

Outdoor lighting installation is where design becomes reality — and where quality of execution determines whether a system looks the way it was intended to. At Illuminated Gardens, installation is not treated as a basic technical step. It is treated as the final and most critical phase of the design process.

We install complete low-voltage LED outdoor lighting systems for homeowners across Metro Detroit, including Novi, Northville, Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Plymouth, Canton, Ann Arbor, and Troy.

Why Professional Installation Matters

Even the best lighting design falls short without proper installation. Outdoor lighting must be positioned accurately, wired correctly, and aimed carefully to achieve a polished nighttime effect. Small errors in fixture placement — a few inches in the wrong direction, a beam angle that is slightly off — compound across an entire system and produce a result that looks improvised rather than designed.

Installation quality also affects long-term reliability. Low-voltage LED systems installed with proper wire connections, weatherproof fittings, and correctly sized transformers perform for years without issues. Systems installed carelessly fail prematurely and require ongoing service.

Our Installation Process

Step 1 — Pre-Installation Walkthrough

Before work begins, we walk the property with the homeowner to confirm fixture placement from the design plan. We verify that planned locations still make sense in context and make any final adjustments before the first fixture goes in the ground.

Step 2 — Fixture Placement and Wire Routing

Fixtures are installed at precisely determined positions. Low-voltage wire is routed along planting bed edges and buried just below the surface — no major trenching is required in most residential installations. Wire runs are kept clean and hidden from view.

Step 3 — Transformer Installation and System Connection

A commercial-grade transformer is mounted at an appropriate location and connected to the system. We size the transformer correctly for the total fixture load, with headroom for future additions if needed. Timers and smart controls are configured at this stage.

Step 4 — Dusk Calibration

This is the most important step — and the one most installation companies skip. When the system powers on for the first time at dusk, every fixture is individually aimed and adjusted against the actual finished result. Beam angles are refined. Fixtures are rotated to correct for shadows or unexpected obstacles. Path light spacing is verified from the street.

No calibration can be done accurately in daylight. The only way to know whether a system looks right is to stand on the property in the dark and look at it. We do this on every installation, without exception.

What We Install

We design and install complete low-voltage LED outdoor lighting systems, including:

  • Facade and architectural uplighting for brick, stone, and siding homes
  • Tree and canopy uplighting for mature oaks, maples, and specimen trees
  • Pathway and walkway lighting for front entries and garden paths
  • Step and retaining wall lighting for grade changes
  • Garden bed accent lighting and downlighting
  • Driveway and entry approach lighting
  • Outdoor living area and patio lighting

All fixtures are commercial-grade, weather-rated, and warrantied. We do not use residential-grade product from big-box suppliers.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does installation take?

Most residential installations complete in one day. The system is operational and calibrated that same evening.

Do you require trenching?

In most residential installations, no trenching is required. Low-voltage wire is buried just below the surface along existing planting bed edges.

What happens after installation?

Every system includes dusk calibration on installation day. We also offer follow-up adjustments as the seasons change and plants mature.
